About Me

Hello, and a warm welcome!

I’m Dr Gursharan Lotey, Clinical Psychologist and founder of Glow Psychology, and I’m so pleased you have found your way here.

It is really important that you feel your therapist is the right person to help support you. The relationship you have with your therapist should be trusting, safe and open. This foundation helps you to get the most out of therapy and allows for a richer and more meaningful experience.

I offer a free initial consultation to help you decide whether I am the right person to support you and to answer any questions you may have about starting therapy. If you would like to explore working together, please get in touch using the contact form.

My Approach & Experience

Background

With over 20 years’ experience as a Clinical Psychologist within the NHS, I have supported children, adolescents, families and adults from a wide range of backgrounds. This experience has taught me that no two people’s stories are the same, and therapy is most effective when it is shaped around who you are, what matters to you, and what you hope to change.

I work in a culturally sensitive and compassionate way, recognising the importance of your identity, background and lived experiences. Drawing on my own Punjabi heritage, I have a particular understanding of the challenges that can come with navigating different cultural expectations, family values, identities and generational experiences.

My approach is to help you develop a kinder relationship with yourself, manage difficult emotions, and move towards a life that feels more aligned with your values rather than being driven by fear.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, low mood, confidence, relationships, or simply feel ready to understand yourself better, you do not have to navigate this alone. Together, we can explore what is keeping you stuck and find a way forward.

Types of Therapy

There are many different types of therapy approaches, and part of my role and our journey is to find and use the right ones that fit for you.

I often merge therapeutic ideas so that you’re getting a personalised approach to your particular needs, rather than a “one size fits all”. Together we’ll find and use approaches that help you.

Click below to find out what approaches I use and how they work.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
This therapy explores the idea that changing your thoughts and behaviours can influence how you feel and is often the target for intervention.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Explores thoughts, feelings and behaviours like CBT but with a focus on developing understanding, compassion (to self and others), and self-acceptance to work with difficulties such as shame, self-criticism, and low mood/depression.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
This model aims to look at developing skills such as mindfulness and acceptance, so that you can take meaningful action based on your values. The idea is that by doing what matters to you, you’re better able to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings, whilst creating a rich and valued life.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
This therapy is a skills-based behavioural approach which is suited for individuals who experience intense emotions and find it difficult to regulate them effectively.
Attachment informed therapy

This theory is about understanding core childhood relationships, present day relationships and the quality of those relationships to help to understand the self and the basic human need to belong. This approach works on strengthening relationships to develop safety and trust.

Systemic & Family based therapy
Child & Adolescents only

This model is about recognising that problems are located in relationships rather than individuals. The concept is that by working on these relationships, particularly those that centre around young people, that their well-being is enhanced.

Mindfulness based therapy
Mindfulness has shown to have benefits with various psychological difficulties including low mood and anxiety. This approach is about developing more present moment awareness, so that you’re able to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings which may be stuck in the past or the future.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

EMDR works on treating symptoms of trauma, where traumatic events keep thoughts, feelings and memories stuck and make it hard to move on from them and live life in the way you want.
