Our bodies carry our experiences, emotions, and st Our bodies carry our experiences, emotions, and stories. Mental and physical health are deeply connected, and when we nurture one, we support the other. Anxiety, depression, or trauma can manifest in the body, often in subtle ways—fatigue, tension, or pain. Listening to these signals is key to understanding our mental state.
Remember, healing isn’t just in the mind—it’s in the body too. When we nurture our bodies, we nurture our mental health. What does your body need from you today?
Here are some ideas: slowing down, movement, nourishing foods, water, sleep, rest, massage, pilates, yoga, strength training, touch, comfort, sensory input etc.

I get this question a lot in therapy. People looki I get this question a lot in therapy. People looking for that ONE thing that will make the difference. But in reality… Change in psychological therapy is a dynamic process that unfolds over time and varies depending on the therapeutic approach, the client’s readiness for change, self awareness and the therapeutic relationship.
Therapies that acknowledge and integrate the client’s social, cultural background and values tend to support more meaningful and lasting change. In essence, change happens as clients become more aware of their inner worlds, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build new coping strategies.
But this doesn’t happen overnight, or through having an a-ha moment or epiphany. Yes that can happen sometimes. More often, it happens as a result of taking SMALL steps towards the desired goal. Repeatedly.
The therapeutic process, and guidance by the therapist, helps transform these insights into lasting emotional and behavioural shifts.

3 common thoughts clients may have before starting 3 common thoughts clients may have before starting therapy, which speak to underlying fears about embarking on this process.
Let’s break them down…
1. Will the therapist think there is something wrong with me?
Some people worry that their therapist will judge them for their thoughts, feelings, or experiences. This fear can stem from concerns about being perceived as weak or flawed. The answer is a RESOUNDING NO. A good therapist will always be non-judgemental, curious and challenging in a supportive way.
2. Will it help me?
Therapy often involves confronting difficult emotions and making changes to improve mental health and well-being. Some people may fear the unknown and resist change, even if they recognise it’s necessary for growth. Therapy is a big investment into yourself emotionally, mentally and financially. You want to know it’s a worthy investment! If you don’t try you won’t know.
3. Do I really need it?
You and ONLY you can truly answer this one… Opening up to a therapist requires being vulnerable and sharing personal struggles. Many individuals fear feeling exposed especially if they’ve experienced judgement or rejection in the past. Individuals may also believe it’s the same as talking to a friend or family. Your therapist will be unbiased, working WITH you and FOR you with clarity and purpose. The conversation and relationship is very different. Although therapy may take some time to see positive changes, you can go at your pace and do not have to commit to endless sessions. Good therapy should be regularly reviewed to ensure it is meeting your needs.
If you’re thinking about starting therapy and have some of these thoughts and fears - you’re not alone.
Most psychologists and therapists offer a free initial chat to answer any questions you may have to help work out if therapy will be helpful for you.
